As a collective group of golf professionals, we believe playing better golf revolves around three key components - swing technique, club fitting and a stronger mind & body.  The Golf Academy team at The Marshes offer a full range of golf coaching programs, lessons and exercises that ensure positive evolution in your golf game.

 

Daryl MacLean, Director of Golf​

Daryl is a Class A Member of the PGA of Canada, and a Brock University Graduate with a Degree in Business Administration. Before accepting the Director of Golf Position at The Marshes at Brookstreet, he was previously employed at notable Premiere Private Clubs, including Credit Valley Golf & Country Club, Burlington Golf & Country Club, and most recently, Cherry Hill Club, where he was the 2015 Stan Leonard Award Winner for the PGA of Canada. Daryl will help to elevate the Golf Experience at The Marshes, for all Members and Guests.

Daryl has a unique teaching methodology, believing that no two swings are alike, but key fundamental positions can be shared amongst golf swings. He has attended numerous ‘Open Forums’ on instruction, investigating the roles of Bio-Mechanics, kinematics, and the different types of swing forces that can affect your game. He also utilizes the most up to date teaching technologies and can explain information in an easy-to-understand platform for all of his students.

Derek MacDonald, Associate Professional/Lead Teaching Professional

Derek is a PGA of Canada Class A Golf Professional who joined The Marshes Golf Club in the winter of 2017, located around Canada’s largest Technology Park.  In recent years, Derek has been recognized as a top teaching professional in Eastern Ontario.  Derek coaches the OVGA Junior Regional Golf Team with the purpose of bringing juniors to the next level in competitive golf provincially and nationally, as well as, coaches the Carleton Raven’s Men’s Varsity Golf Team. 

Derek’s teaching strategies offer a unique experience through use of the most technologically advanced tools, assisting golfers of all levels, to improve their game; including TrackMan and BodiTrak.  His vast knowledge in how to incorporate technology with biomechanics allows Derek to help every golfer swing more efficiently.  Derek has quickly become a highly sought after teacher and coach of golfers at every skill level including; juniors, NCAA golfers, PGA Tour Canada golfers, as well as, golfers who have played the PGA Tour.  Derek continues to research advances in motor skill learning and biomechanical integration in the golf swing in order to bring out the best in every student.

Derek believes strongly in his slogan of “Play Better Golf, Longer”, as his passion is to help every golfer who comes for a lesson or just seeks advice from him.  With the goal of playing better golf being successful, golfers will play for a longer period of time in their life.  This not only helps the game of golf, but the teaching industry which Derek is so passionate about. 

Don Rioux, Teaching Professional

A gifted instructor and communicator - Don matches impressive playing credentials (University of Kentucky Golf Scholarship, Canadian Tour, Quebec Amateur Champion, Ottawa City and District Medal and Match Play Champion) with use of the most up-to-date learning systems to make him one of Ottawa’s most sought after instructors.

David McBain, Mental Skills & Performance Coach

Dave is the Coordinator for our National Junior Golf Development Centre, is a Level II Coach-in-Training with The First Tee®, has trained with leading mental skills coaches in the U.S. and continues to develop his knowledge from leading experts around the world. He brings a special perspective and skill set to our team and to our clients that helps them improve regardless of their golf skill level. He has helped young and older clients appreciate themselves, the game of golf and measurably raised their enjoyment. He is passionate about engaging and supporting young people through golf so they have the life and golf skills and healthy habits needed to be successful. He holds a B.Sc., and was one of two student/athletes to be awarded the first Sports Canada scholarships ever offered for golf in 1971. He is the Head Coach for his Alma Mater, Carleton Ravens Golf Program and a volunteer coach with The First Tee of the Coachella Valley.
