The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre is recognized by Golf Canada and Golf Ontario because we provide a clear golf development pathway for children aged 4 to 18. Consistent with Golf Canada’s Long-Term Player Development Guide, we offer a full range of nationally endorsed programs that foster a life-long passion for golf, whether juniors wish to play golf recreationally or pursue a more competitive experience. These programs are delivered by our trained and certified golf professionals and community coaches at our outstanding practice and golf facilities in Kanata. Our programs are also linked to schools in Kanata and beyond to bring the golf experience to as many children as possible.

Junior Golf Camp 2017

Ages 7 to 12

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre offers one-week golf camps throughout July and August at our Golf Academy and on our adjacent European PGA-approved short course, The Marchwood.

Our popular camp is designed to teach the fundamentals of golf including the swing, the game and the key mental skills that dominate performance. In addition, our campers learn important life skills and techniques, relating to leadership, sportsmanship and etiquette. Our Camps are very social, leading to new friendships during fun play with golf and other sporting activities.

Under the supervision of our experienced counselors, campers participate in:

  • Round of golf daily on The Marchwood, our European PGA-approved short course
  • Daily golf instruction by PGA of Canada Golf Instructors
  • Daily mental & life skills experiences from our specialized coaches
  • Swimming every second day at Brookstreet Hotel
  • Round of Mini-Putt on Blackbird Falls Putting Course
  • Snacks, lunch, games and gifts
  • Games promoting fitness and physical activity
  • National Junior Skills Challenge
  • Prizes and Future Links Recognition

CN Future Links “Learn to Play” Program

Ages 4 to 12

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre offers CN Future Links “Learn to Play” programs as part of a national initiative to provide cost-effective and best-in-class programming to juniors in the Ottawa Valley. Each 6-week session includes 2 hours of lessons on Saturdays with instruction from PGA of Canada Professionals and our qualified coaches, followed by optional play on The Marchwood golf course.

Children from 4 to 12 years old will develop their golf and life skills though an interactive curriculum covering seven “Learn to Play” modules. This program is organized in stages beginning with White followed by Orange, Blue and Black. As players attend and successfully complete their stage, they receive a coloured cap and certificate to signify this accomplishment and they advance to the next stage – Golf Canada’s version of martial arts belts.

CN Future Links “National Skills Challenge” Events

Ages 9 to 18

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre will host two half day skills challenges for children aged 9-18 who wish to measure their skill level in putting, chipping, iron play and driving. All results will be made available to participants through a CN Future Links’ Golf National Leader-board that allows them to be eligible to compete at Glen Abbey Golf Club on July 23 during RBC Canadian Open Championship festivities.

Includes: practice time, snacks, competition and posting of results on the national website.

PGA Junior League Golf Events

Ages 13 and under

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre will participate as a team in PGA Junior League Golf matches with other clubs. There will be 6 events, several being hosted by other clubs that are designed to focus on the social aspects the game of golf for participants 13 years of age and under. They feature a team-vs-team format in a structured league providing a popular, less stressful scramble format.

Each PGA Junior League Golf player receives a team golf shirt, league hat, 6 regular-season league events, instruction from a PGA of Canada Professional, opportunity for All-Star Advancement and Access to the PGA Junior League Golf website.

The PGA Junior League Golf regular season will be held on Sunday mornings starting at 10am. Specific dates and venues will be publicized by the end of May. $199.95 + tax

Girl’s Golf Club

Ages 11 to 18

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre offers a Girls’ Golf Club designed for girls 11 to 18 years of age. As members of the Girl’s Club, young girls will develop the skills, attitudes and positive images of themselves as athletes on the golf course, encouraging both self-esteem and a life-long love of the game. Our Girls’ Golf Club focuses on helping them learn to enjoy the game for a lifetime in the company of other girls.

Under the leadership, coaching & mentoring of PGA of Canada Instructor, Pennie Simkins, our junior girls will receive 2 hours of weekly golf instruction that covers the game, its etiquette and rules, the golf swing, plus the physical, mental and social aspects of golf. Inevitably, participating girls will develop new and close friends, have fun and see improvement.

Teen’s Golf Club

Ages 13 to 18

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre offers a Teen’s Golf Club designed for young golfers who are interested in an affordable option to continue learning about golf in a recreational golfing context. By learning with other teens, they will not only develop their golf skills but also their life skills.

Under the leadership of Community Coach, Dave McBain, our our teens will receive 2 hours of weekly golf instruction, coaching and mentoring that covers the game, its etiquette and rules, the golf swing, plus the physical, mental and social aspects of golf and relevant teen issues.

Introduction to Competition Program

Ages 11 to 16

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre offers the first phase of Golf Canada’s competitive stream of Long Term Player Development (LTPD) that focuses on providing appropriate competitive experiences where winning and results are not the only priority.

Open to golfers 11-16 years of age who have already acquired basic golf skills, it should appeal to those that seek a learning environment with a competitive leaning. A team of PGA of Canada Professionals and specialized coaches will provide both group and individual coaching encompassing all aspects needed to develop as a competitive golfer. The program is divided into 3 sessions:

Learn to Compete

Ages 13 to 17

The Marshes’ National Junior Golf Development Centre is offering for the first time this year, the second phase of Golf Canada’s competitive stream of Long Term Player Development (LTPD) - Learn to Compete. This program provides the technical, tactical, emotional and other skills needed to successfully compete now and in the future.

Open to athletes 13 to 17 years of age who have acquired sound golf fundamentals and are ready to work on establishing a determined and resilient mindset able to withstand the successes and failures associated with competitive golf. This is also a period in which the junior athlete can begin to more accurately measure their skills against peers and adapt accordingly through more detailed annual planning provided by a qualified PGA of Canada coach.

Participants will receive:

  • The Marshes and The Marchwood Junior Membership
  • Unlimited access to practice facility
  • Performance assessment, planning and monitoring
  • Launch monitor, BodiTrak® and OptiBrain® training
  • Equipment evaluation and recommendations
  • Weekly coaching, including 2 x 18 hole on-course lessons on The Marshes championship course
  • Tournament preparation and debrief for all events
